My Strategy

I love Physics. Maybe because of that I think about time an awful lot.  I love Physics so much that I’ve spent the last eight years teaching it to high school students.

One of the hardest concepts that I try to get across to my students is that time is malleable. Don’t take my word for it though take Einstein who said “When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour.”

From this one of the things that I’ve realized is that in this life the only thing you’re given is time.  You trade your time for absolutely everything else.  The scary thing though is that you don’t know how much time you’ve been given. The part that makes me a little bit sad but is an inevitable truth is that I have to trade some of my time for money.

Because money is necessary and time is finite I refuse to work at something that I don’t enjoy doing.  That’s one of the reasons I left my engineering job and started teaching high school.  Yes it was a pay cut, but instead of dreading going to work every single day I now look forward to it.

That being said, the pay cut was substantial and it would be silly to imply that the reduction in pay wasn’t felt by my family. In early 2016 I became aware that there were methods that could be used to increase my income without a substantial increase in my time commitment.  It was at that point that I began to actively investigate making money using passive methods.

It started out slowly.  During the first month of trying, I made a grand sum total of $3.10.  The funny thing is that $3.10 was the most enjoyable $3.10 I have ever made in my life because I did absolutely nothing different than I had ever done before other than install one app on my phone.

I was hooked.  Over the next 6 months I gradually found ways to increase that monthly income until now through fairly passive methods I generate anywhere from $350 to $600 a month with a time investment of about 30 minutes a day. More importantly for me though is that that time is split evenly between before my little boys wake up and after they go to bed (and a little is spent when I come home for lunch).

So now that you understand my motivation it should be easier to understand the criteria that I use to determine what programs I participate in. There aren’t that many and none of them are that hard to understand.

  1. The more automated a program is the more likely I am to use it in my income stream.
  2. If a program requires daily babysitting
    1. that babysitting must occur no more often than 3 times a day (When I wake up, When I come home for lunch, before I go to bed)
    2. The total time allowed for all babysitting activities must average less than 30 minutes a day.
  3. I don’t generally do one time offers as I want my passive income stream to be as consistent as possible.
  4. I love things that scale.

That’s it.

These 4 criteria eliminate most of the “earn money online” opportunities. I don’t do surveys.  I don’t do pay to click sites. I don’t do sign up offers. I don’t do “work”.

In the next section I’ll explain what programs I do use.
