On a sort of CRH note, while I was waiting on my wife to go to the bathroom I decided to get a diet coke out of a vending machine.  On the first machine I was only able to get it to accept one of my dollar bills but not the second.  So I hit the coin return button.  I was really suprised when a 1979 SBA Dollar dropped into the change bin.

On a techie sort of note, sometime last year (maybe for my birthday) I was given a Logitech Harmony 650 Universal Remote.  Tonight I took the time to set the thing up.  It's awesome.

I still haven't had a chance to take the new metal detector out. I haven't even had a chance to take it out of the box.  We finished track last week (for the most part), and I immediately went to Spring Football. 

The light is at the end of the tunnel though, and I think I'm starting to see it's glimmer.  Less than 3 weeks of school left…  I should be digging soon.

I started work on classroom website for next year.  I'm trying to target the keyword "Teacher Website".  I think it's going to work out amazingly well. You can read more about it on the site if you're interested.

I also applied to be reinstated at DMOZ.

I've also been trying to put together the outline for a new teaching stratedy combining the elements of the flipped classroom, the inspired workspace, and classroom desktop publishing.

Long story short… I've been busy.

Here's the list of what I want:

1. Teknetics Omega 8000 (hereafter ever known as the O-8)
2. 11" DD search coil
3. 5" DD Sniper coil
4. Garrett ProPointer

Obviouslly it goes without saying that I for sure wanted the detector.  Picking the next item though proved to be a real challenge.  After much hemming and hawing I ended up deciding to go with the 5" sniper coil.

I decided against the 11" DD coil because initially I don't think I'm going to need the added depth that it would give me.  I know the spot that I'm planning on hunting hasn't ever been hunted before, however I also know there's going to be a ton of trash on this site.  For the forseeable future I suspect that any extra depth the 11" coil would give me would end up being masked out by the trash that's currently there. 

I also decided against the ProPointer although I REALLY wanted this.  My reasoning for this was even though my current pinpoint is crap, it works.  I know it's not great, but for now it does the trick.  It also was the cheapest of the 4 things in my list so will be the easiest to save up for.  Also also they're currently backordered and there's no telling when the backorder will be filled.  Also also also and maybe most importantly Bart said were it him and he could only pick one other thing he'd pick the…

5" sniper coil.  This should help me out tremoundouslly in the trash.  I know that.  I also know that were I to wait to buy it later and get the ProPointer now there's a very high liklihood that I might never buy it.  So in the end I placed the order with bart for the O-8 w/ the 5" sniper coil.

I'd really really like to thank Bart for holding my hand through my first "big boy" metal detector purchase.  The experience was great.  I'll be sure to be doing business with him again the added bonus is even though he sells nationwide he's actually located in the town I live in.  Kind of the best of both the internet world and local business world.

Now comes the hard part, waiting for the detector to arrive. 

I've made the decision to try to document (with video) the process of me learning this machine from the time I open up the box until some undetermined end point.  We'll see how that goes. 

When I went to do a quick hunt the next day I realized my detector wasn't in the toolbox.  I thought maybe P had taken it out when he was using it, so I called him and asked if it was in the toolbox when he used it…  It had been, and he hadn't moved it. 

Evidently some freaking bastards decided to get into my toolbox and steal my detector.  This is the third time we've been robbed since moving into this house.  Makes me sick.

If there's a silver lining (which there isn't), this has moved my detector purchase up a bit.  More on that in the next post.

When I got to the track meet the sun was just starting to come up so I decided to lather on the sunscreen. Right when I began digging around in my bag, one of the athletes started asking me a question.  I looked up to answer him and then felt the tube of sunscreen.  I answered his question took the tube out of the bag and closed the bag up.  Then I opened the tube and started squeezing out some of the lotion onto my finger.

I always start with my ears and make sure to cover every single square milimeter of them.  Then I rubbed some of the lotion onto my neck.   I also hate it when I get my cheeks sunburned so I rubbed some lotion on them as well.  Last but not least I needed to protect my nose.  So I put some of the sunscreen on my nose and started working it in…

At the exact same moment I became aware that my ears were starting to feel funny and that the sunscreen smelled funny.  So I looked down at the tube and wouldn't you know it…

10 minutes later I thought my face was going to melt off.
